When it's only 9C (48F), windy, sunny spells, and showers, there aren't many visitors to Adelsö. So it was possible to concentrate on the first detail to be chiseled. 

This is the knot that holds the sun compass in place at the top of the stone. This is the thinnest part of the granite, so it's important to keep the hammer blows just right to avoid damage.
