In the book Upplands Runinskrifter, three sketches of U 798 can be found. I chose the one made by Bureus in 1639, since I think it is the most accurate.

In the 17th century, the stone was described as almost round. This must have been a description of the carving surface, not the stone per se, since it was described as lying down in 1639.

Around 1840, the stone was used as filling in the construction of the road. This was remembered around 20 years later, but no one could tell where exactly the stone was lying.

If we had the approximate location of the stone, it could easily be found by using a ground-penetrating radar. The smooth surface is probably facing upwards and should be easily recognised due to its round shape. Its diameter is of about 1.5 m.
